you need to watch regular naruto before shippuden or else the might make references to the past that you wont understand. and the difference is that in naruto most of the younger characters (like naruto and sasuke and other genin) are aroung thirteen years old and does not introduce the main enemy until like episode 70(or around there) . in shippuden they are now 15 years old and are more skilled. there is more climactic fights. and introduces the full akatsuki(you will learn about them in naruto)

Well you should really watch Naruto before you get to naruto Shippuuden. The difference is that in Naruto, everyone is younger and not as strong as they are in Naruto Shippuuden. If you are going to start from Naruto episode 1, I say that you should skip some filler episodes. But that’s my opinion.

you should start by watching naruto, not naruto shippuuden. if you start on naruto shippuuden you won’t know some of naruto’s goals like rescuing sasuke and naruto’s child hood. plus you’ll learn and know about much more characters. starting with naruto is recomended.
